Wrinkles Disappear With Anti-Wrinkle Injections

When you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, are you unsatisfied with wrinkles on your face? Do you feel like you’re looking at an older version of yourself? Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are popular cosmetic treatments that can help with a simple injection. These injections relax your facial muscles to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They also prevent new lines from forming. When properly applied by an expert, these injections can eliminate facial wrinkles throughout the entire face:

  • Worry lines across the forehead
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Lateral brows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Corners of the mouth
  • Dimples on chin
  • Jawline

With these procedures, your face can get a more youthful, tighter appearance. Within 3-5 days, facial wrinkles will start to fade away. Within two weeks, wrinkles are completely eliminated at the site of the injection. The effects will last up to 4 months, so you don’t need to worry about keeping up with treatments.

First, Dr. Cohen will have a consultation with you to make sure that these injectable options are best for you and your goals. On your consultation, Dr. Cohen will have a look at your face and medical history to make sure that one of these injections will work for you, and will select the best one for you. Not all patients are a candidate for wrinkle-reduction procedures, and you may be better suited to a different procedure. If you are a good candidate, Dr. Cohen will perform the injection on the target area.  The process takes 15-30 minutes, with minimal discomfort.  The recovery time afterwards is minimal – usually just a few hours. Dr. Cohen will let you know if there are any activities you should avoid within that recovery time.

These injections will not remove deep lines or wrinkles that are already etched into the skin over the years. If you have deeper wrinkles, you should consider skin resurfacing with a chemical peel or microdermabrasion or an injectable filler material like Restylane or Juvederm. The best way to understand your options is to have a free consultation, where Dr. Cohen can see your face in person, and educate you on the best options for your goals.

On average, all three injections (Botox, Dysport and Xeomin) will last from 3-6 months after your injection, on average. Everybody is different, so your results will vary based on your own body. When the injection is starting to wear off, it is best to return for another treatment of Botox Cosmetic. Otherwise, your lines will start to appear again. Since everyone is different, Dr. Cohen will let you know how you can identify when the injection is wearing off.

The amount of units you need depends on the lines you want to have removed. If you only want a single, shallow line removed, you won’t need many units.  If you are interested in removing multiple, deep lines, you will need more. On your free consultation, Dr. Cohen will let you know exactly how many units he will be using to achieve the look you want.

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are different variations of the same procedure.  All of the injections are applied in the same way (a simple 15-30 minute injection) and have short recovery periods. Each variation has a unique formulation.  As a result, each variation behaves slightly differently, and has a slightly different cost. For example, Botox is fairly localized.  It tends to stay in one particular area and is tightly controlled. Dysport, however, tends to spread more easily, which can make it useful for larger applications, but may not work well if you want to target one small, specific area. Dr. Cohen and his staff are experts in selecting the right variation of anti-wrinkle injections that will work for your goals. When you have your free consultation, they will ask you a series of questions, so they can identify which injection is best for you.

If not performed properly, cosmetic anti-wrinkle injections can cause side effects. If too much is injected above your eyebrows, it may spread to the muscles that lift the upper eyelid, and will cause your eyelids to droop. Also, if you already suffer from eyelid drooping, anti-wrinkle injections may worsen the situation. That’s why it’s crucial to work with a facial expert when you’re interested in Botox, Dysport or Xeomin. With decades of experience, Dr. Cohen is an expert in facial anatomy and anti-wrinkle injections.  That’s why he will adjust your dosage and the injection site to get your desired results, without causing any side effects.

You should notice some effect of your anti-wrinkle treatment within 3-5 days of it being injected. In some people, this time might be as short as 2 days, and most people see the full effect after 2 weeks. After your treatment is injected into the muscle, it takes time for it to work.  It works by blocking the signal that causes your muscles to contract.  For that to work, it has to bind to specific parts of the muscle, and that takes a different amount of time in each person.
